Ruxton Renovation

Ruxton, Maryland

Interior view of a room with floral wallpaper, framed bird artwork, flower arrangements in yellow and black pots, and a pair of brown boots and shoes on a wooden floor.

Our Ruxton Renovation is a full-home transformation designed for a couple entering their next chapter—created as a place to retire, entertain and stay closely connected to family. The home balances timeless elegance with warmth and livability, blending classic design principles with moments of whimsy and personal storytelling.

The cottage-inspired interiors incorporate bold wallpapers, rich textiles and traditional furnishings reinterpreted through a modern lens. Existing artwork—particularly statement pieces from Asia—was thoughtfully integrated to honor the homeowners’ collection and enrich the narrative of the space.

Designed with entertaining and multi-generational living in mind, the home feels equally welcoming for intimate gatherings and visits from grandchildren. Completed in collaboration with Warfield & Co. Architects and Taylor Reed Builders, the result proves that retirement living can feel personal, inviting and vibrant.

“We spend a good bit of time in Florida and Maine, but our Ruxton house will one day be our forever home and we wanted it to feel like a reflection of our lives — welcoming, full of light and connected to nature. From the very beginning, the SB team understood exactly what we hoped for and created spaces that feel as effortless as they are beautiful. Every room tells a story — from the botanical wallpapers that bring the gardens inside to the cozy twin guest beds our grandchildren love. The open layout makes entertaining easy and everyday living comfortable. Moving in was seamless, and living here now feels even better than we imagined.”
